John Bridge joins the Flex-Able team

Flex-Able Travel Ltd, the Alconbury-based transport provider, has appointed prominent business leader John Bridge OBE as a non-executive director in order to assist with the company’s strategic growth plans. Richard Vanbergen, Managing Director of Flex-Able Travel Ltd, said: “We recognise that the company needs help with its strategic growth, which is why we have brought John on board. Linked with the wealth of experience that John has amassed over the years, there are many opportunities out there that we believe will enable us to maximise our share of the market. “As Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce John has a wealth of knowledge in terms of local industry but more importantly within the road haulage and transport sector. As such he fully understands the constraints and new legislation which is constantly enforced upon us and we anticipate he will be able to offer invaluable guidance.”

In 1994 Flex-Able was formed as a small media business, specialising in the hotel and catering industry. By 1997 it had developed into a business travel agency and in 1999 Richard and Sarah Vanbergen identified a niche market in the private hire business locally. Within a very short time one car had grown into a fleet of 18. Since then the company has continued to expand, culminating in the launch of an exclusive corporate private hire service in March 2007. This is complimented by a courier service, hazardous goods transportation, a specialist sourcing business and most recently facilities management, which includes office cleaning and environmental disposal of computer equipment. As a result Flex-Able Travel Ltd now owns a number of operating companies and the company directors anticipate that the appointment of a non-executive director to oversee the strategy will enable them to continue to manage each individual company successfully under the group umbrella. Commenting on his appointment John Bridge OBE said: “Flex-Able Travel Ltd is a powerful example of how a forward-thinking, driven company can identify gaps in the marketplace and draw upon its strengths to expand successfully. With the current economic climate not being particularly favourable to SMEs, it is often beneficial for businesses to work together with outside individuals who have the experience and knowledge to ensure that growth plans can be executed successfully and, most importantly, profitably.”
